Simply Classic was first published in 1993 and has sold over 100,000 copies, winning the Tabasco Walter S. McIlhenny Hall of Fame Award in 2002. It is still a best seller and is the favored cookbook of many Northwest cooks.
In this collection of favorite recipes, the Junior League of Seattle celebrates our eclectic style of Northwest living and takes advantage of our proximity to some of the world’s best seafood, some of the country’s most prolific farms, ranches and orchards, one of the country’s best farmers’ markets and every kind of ethnic grocer you can imagine.
Four years in the making, Simply Classic contains over 250 fabulous recipes, chosen from more than 2,000 submitted by Junior League of Seattle members, their families and friends. Every recipe was tested, retested, and then tested again by enthusiastic League members and friends. Then our editors (excellent chefs in their own right) tested, refined and selected the recipes for utmost reliability.
We’ve included quick and easy recipes for every day and some extravagant creations that pull out all the stops. Recipes that are light and healthy and the occasional indulgence. Recipes from around the world and some all-American classics. Recipes that are elegant and some that are just plain fun. Of course, they’re all simply delicious.
We’ve designed our book to be easy to handle and easy to use. The book is divided into a variety of sections such as appetizers and beverages, soups, salads, pasta, seafood, salmon, poultry, meats, vegetables, and desserts. It also includes sixteen menus, including a Northwest Harvest Dinner, Seattle Seafood Sampler, Picnic at the Winery, and Brunch on the Patio.
We hope you reach for it often. Enjoy!
