Membership in the Junior League of Seattle is open to women ages 18 and older who express an interest in voluntarism. We have 3 levels of membership status: Provisional, Active and Sustainer.
Any woman who would like to become a member must attend an orientation session. Sessions, called Meet & Greets, are held in the spring. Interested women may email email@example.com to find out the orientation schedule and provide an email address to receive an Evite for the upcoming new member orientations.
If you are interested in becoming a member of the Junior League of Seattle, please feel free to contact us.
During your first year in the Junior League, you are considered a Provisional member. You will belong to a Provisional Small Group, that meets monthly, to teach you how the JLS operates and to allow you to socialize with women from your neighborhood.
Provisional members must attend at least 4 General or Unit Meetings, 4 Accredited Trainings and 4 Service Shifts. As a Provisional, it is required to attend at least 5 Provisional Small Group meetings and participate in a Provisional Project. Attendance at the Saturday Provisional Retreat in September is mandatory.
Provisional members’ financial obligations are dues of $210, plus the non-refundable Provisional Course fee of $100. All Provisional fees are payable by July 15 of each year. After a Provisional year, members become involved in community service projects, fundraising projects to support the community service, or in League in support of the organization. This is known as Active member status.
Active members must attend 6 General or Unit Meetings and Trainings. They must attend 2 General or Unit Meetings and 2 Trainings, and can opt to complete the other 2 credits with General Meetings or Trainings. All Active members must also complete 2 Service Shifts. Active members’ financial obligations include dues of $210, a donation to the Annual Campaign, and donation /procurement for the Premier Event of $150. After 5 years of Active service, members may choose to become "sustaining," that is, take a less active but supporting role in the League. Sustaining members may choose to return to Active status at any time.
Our Sustainers pay annual dues of $115, and are welcome to attend all General Meetings, Trainings and Service Shifts as they wish. Our Sustainer body serve as mentors to the Provisional and Active members of the League, and are a valuable source of support and inspiration to the League as a whole. Many of our Sustainers started as volunteers in the Junior League and go on to serve as leaders in other charity organizations in the greater Seattle community.
Have you recently moved, or plan to move, to the Seattle area and would like to transfer your Active or Sustainer Junior League membership? We welcome you to transfer from your former League to the JLS, and accept transfers throughout the year.To initiate the transfer process, please contact your current League and ask them to transfer your membership to the JLS.
