Advocacy

As members of Junior League of Seattle (JLS) and Association of Junior Leagues International (AJLI), we are ALL advocates for the communities we serve.  The Advocacy Committee works to ensure that JLS members are informed and understand our focus areas, community impact, and how to use our collective voice to achieve our mission.  Advocacy also assigns Legislative Leads who track legislation that affects our community partners and women and children in the community, and who work directly with our Community Partners.  Long known for putting on the Capitol Days experience in Olympia, the Advocacy Committee is also working to bring opportunities closer to home this year, with member Advocacy Nights at the JLS office and with the introduction of a house party format that will allow members to be advocates in the fight against sex trafficking.

Our 2012-2013 goals are to:
  1. Educate JLS members on JLS focus areas, what our partners do, and how to talk about these topics with confidence.
  2. Increase advocacy opportunities for JLS members – bringing some of the Capitol Days experience closer to home.
  3. Create a great placement experience for Provisional members who are planning Capitol Days.
  4. Strengthen ties and awareness of JLS in the community - especially with legislators and our partner organizations.
  5. Help JLS members better understand JLWS (Junior Leagues of Washington State) and its role in advocacy and the League experience.

In addition to working with the committees and partners in the Community Wing, the members of Advocacy oversee the League's actions against sex trafficking, working with partners like Washington Engage, Seattle Against Slavery, WARN, Businesses Ending Slavery & Trafficking, and more.
