The Dorothy Stimson Bullitt Community Service Award honors an Active or Sustaining Junior League member who has enriched the lives of her neighbors and community at large through extraordinary volunteer public service.

Dorothy Stimson Bullitt was a charter member of the JLS, civic leader, women’s advocate and the founder of the King Broadcasting Company. She was truly a remarkable woman whose impact on our community will be felt by Seattle’s many generations to come.

Dorothy Stimson Bullitt was a prominent businesswoman, risk taker and a single mother of three children. She was a working mother in the 1930’s which was unheard of for a woman of her stature. Dorothy also knew how to accomplish what needed to be done. During this time she turned King Broadcasting into a flourishing business, raised her three children and still found countless hours to volunteer through the Junior League and other community groups.

The Dorothy Stimson Bullitt Community Service Award was founded in 1989 in recognition of her extraordinary service to the public and the JLS. This was the only award that she allowed to carry her name. We honor and revere her lifetime contribution to our community and dedication to the League.
